Description
Screwtape Letters C.S.Lewis 1st UK Ed/1st Im. HBDJ A very rare copy of THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS C.S.LEWIS Geoffrey Bles, London, 1942 First Impression The black boards are unfaded with just the slightest bumping to the lower spine and points. The label is intact, bright white and clean. There is only light foxing and there are no odors; previous pencil underlining had been erased and is difficult to discern. It also appears that a pencilled name and address was erased. The jacket is quite nice with several closed tears and only minor chipping at top of spine. It is unclipped and other than the usual discoloration and soiling to white panels, the jacket is in remarkable condition. A most difficult book to find, particularly with a jacket. There are very few of this title available publically and when they are the is often no jacket or a damaged one. This book will only become more valuable and precious to any collector. One of the author’s most acclaimed works, first published in serial form in 1941, in The Guardian, London. The book takes the form of 31 letters from Screwtape, an urbane elder statesman of the underworld to his nephew, a novice devil, on how to procure the soul of a young Christian.
