Description
Important Americana: The Bertram K. Little and Nina Fletcher Little Collection Parts 1 & 2 Sotheby's, New York auction catalogs Sale # 6526 "LITTLE" & 6612 "LITTLE II" Sale dates: January 9, 1994 and October 21-22, 1994. 457 lots in Part 1; Part 2: lot 458 through 1072. This great sale was the event of the decade for folk art. Nina Fletcher Little, widely known and admired for her work on the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Collection, and her husband Bertram Little, put together one of the finest collections of folk art of the 20th century. The cover painting (one of a pair believed by Reuben Moulthrop, ca. 1790) brought triple the house estimate, and at $745,000 was the top lot(s) in the sale, bought by the Museum of American Folk Art for their collection. The sale was full of highlights and will doubtless continue to be a much consulted reference for folk art well into the future. Introductory essay by Wendell Garrett. Bibliography of Nina Fletcher Little. An album or sampler of excerpts of a dozen or so of Little's artices and essays. Biographical sketches of the artists. We offer both catalogs, Parts 1 & 2, complete. Prices realized sheets for Part 2 only included. Both softcover catalogs are in very good condition, and are completely clean. No marks to lots or illustrations.
